Blood and Sand

3 March 2010 · 9 Comments

In first sight the Blood and Sand Cocktail has awful composition - scotch, cherry-brandy liqueur, sweet vermouth (that’s enough!) and orange juice. But today this stuff seems to me very perspective.

The story of the name of this cocktail is well known, you may read it here. But name of the creator keep in the dark. I use recipe from CocktailDB. One of my favorite cocktail book The Essential Cocktail by Dale DeGroff prescribed equal part of all ingredients.

Blood and Sand

20 ml scotch
15 ml sweet vermouth
15 ml cherry-brandy liqueur
20 ml fresh orange juice
Shake. Cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel.

The Blood and Sand Cocktail has unique sweet and fruit taste with hint of specific scotch taste and flavor. It is admirable!

The Rose Cocktail is classic cocktail which was invented in 1920-s somewhere in Europe. It contain kirsch (or kirschwasser) as main alcohol, cherry-brandy (or as Wondrich specify raspberry liqueur or Chambord) as sweetener and dry vermouth as diluent. Kirsch is rare but interesting dry fruit brandy (or eau-de-vie) from Germany and France. It obtain from specifiс cherry by pot-distillation process.

Rose

45 ml dry vermouth
15 ml cherry brandy
15 ml kirsch
Stir. Cocktail glass with a rim from grenadine and sugar. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

The Rose Cocktail is admirable pre-dinner drink with elegant aroma of cherry and herbal taste.

Zombie

This version of Zombie cocktail I was found in one book by Salvatore Calabrese. Calabrese say that this is original version of Zombie. I don`t think so, but I can say that this cocktail is very good! :)

zombie-with-papaya.jpg

Zombie

30 ml light rum
30 ml gold rum
30 ml dark rum
20 ml cherry brandy
20 ml apricot brandy
100 ml pineapple juice
60 ml fresh orange juice
20 ml fresh lime juice
40 ml fresh papaya juice
1 tsp orgeat
15 ml overproof damerara rum
Shake all ingredients except overproof rum. Serve in tall glass (zombie) or hurricane glass. Float overproof rum, garnish with maraschino cherry, piece of pineapple or lime, or orange and sugar powder.

Admirable! This excellent cocktail has very smooth and well-balanced taste. It is not so sweet many other tiki-cocktail and I think is good.
