Some day ago one of my favorite cocktail-blogger Dr. Bamboo posted some words about marvellous liquor – the Midori. And my cocktail-friend from St. Petersburg, Russia nabocov wrote about Melon sour (Midori-based sour). Actually it is strange thing – three blogers on one week wrote about Midori…
I explore some cocktails with the Beautiful Green Liqueur last week too. First of all I prepared one of the signature Midori cocktails – the Japanese Slipper. This cocktail was invented in 1984 by Jean-Paul Bourguignon at Mietta’s Restaurant in Melbourne. This cocktail has very strange recipe with Cointreau liqueur as main alcohol.

Japanese Slipper
25 ml Cointreau
25 ml Midori
25 ml fresh lemon juice
Shake. Pour into cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
The Japanese Slipper Cocktail has light sour-sweet fruit taste. It is good cocktail for summer or tropic beach. If you replaced cointreau with vodka you may obtain more powerfull drink.
Next my cocktail is Suntory Cocktail. Suntory, as you know, is a large japanese beverage holding, which launched Midori worldwide. This recipe was found in The Craft of the Cocktail by Dale DeGroff.

Suntory Cocktail
30 ml citrus-flavored vodka (Absolut citron)
20 ml Midori
20 ml fresh grapefruit juice
Shake. Cocktail glass.
The Suntory Cocktail has sweet candy taste with fruit-melon palate. Admirable cocktail.

Ideal concoction for hot summer days is Frozen Cocktails, particularly Frozen Margaritas. Actually, my favorite Ultimate Margarita I prefer only straight up, but its fruit sisters are great frozen.

Frozen Melon Margarita
45 ml tequila
30 ml Midori melon liqueur
60 ml sweet and sour mix
Blend with appropriate quantity of ice until smooth. Serve in margarita glass. Garnish with lime wheel.
De facto, it is my first frozen cocktail. It has pure-like consistence and it is ice-cold. Great smooth and light cocktail.

Frozen Watermelon Margarita
45 ml tequila
30 ml watermelon liqueur
60 ml sweet and sour mix
Blend with appropriate quantity of ice until smooth. Serve in margarita glass. Garnish with lime wheel.
The Watermelon Margarita is very popular cocktail among my guests. Frozen version is great too. Bright and delicious cocktail.

Frozen Apple Margarita
45 ml tequila
30 ml apple liqueur (or schnapps)
60 ml sweet and sour mix
Blend with appropriate quantity of ice until smooth. Serve in margarita glass. Garnish with lime wheel.
Frozen Apple Margarita is admirable cocktail. It has smooth and little sour apple taste. Great!

I don`t think that Apple Martini Cocktail is interesting cocktail. But this cocktail is great concoction for some party, for example for New Year party.
This my favorite recipe of Apple Martini Cocktail (From The Joy of Mixology by Gary Regan)

Apple Martini
50 ml vodka (or gin)
25 ml apple schnapps
splash of fresh lemon juice (optional)
Stir (or shake). Cocktail glass, garnish with an apple pieces.
I don`t like gin for my Apple Martini. My choice – is vodka. As we now vodka is tasteless alcogol. Apple Martini cocktail with vodka has crisp sweet apple taste and smell. I obtained very good results with Marie Brizard Manzanita (Licor de Manzana Verde). You may add lemon juice for little sour taste if it is preferable for you.
Apple Martini Cocktail has somу variations. My favorite are:

Sour Green Apple Martini
50 ml vodka
25 ml apple schnapps
splash of Midori
splash of fresh lime juice
Shake. Cocktail glass. Garnish with a green apple slice.
This coctail has amazing greenish colour and sweet candy apple taste.

Classic Apple Martini
35 ml vodka
35 ml apple schnapps
splash of dry vermouth
Shake. Cocktail glass. Garnish with an apple slice.
The taste of dry vermouth work well with apple taste of MB Manzanita. This cocktail has interesting apple taste.
This cocktail I was found in promotional book of Finlandia Vodka. This cocktail is great festive concoction.

Finlandia Red Caramel Apple Martini
50 ml Finlandia Cranberry Fusion vodka
25 ml green apple schnapps
5 ml butterscotch schnapps
Shake vigorously and strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with a caramel cube and an apple slice.
Admirable! Happy New Year!

Hmm… Variations? It is very interesting… I decide to explore one of “real man” cocktail, one of cocktail which no recomend to woman… I explore Long Island Iced Tea, dorks!
A few information about this concoction was found here and here.

Long Island Iced Tea
20 ml gin
20 ml tequila
20 ml vodka
20 ml light rum
20 ml Cointreau
20 ml fresh lemon juice
50 ml cola
Shake all ingredients except cola, strain in ice-filled collins glass (400 ml) and fill with cola. Garnish with lemon slice.
It is very “refreshing” drink with a big, nuclear kick. LIIT has some variations, which I try too.
Variations:
Long Beach Iced Tea: Simply a Long Island with cranberry juice instead of Coca-Cola. Named after the city of Long Beach, NY, (not Long Beach, CA, as many believe) which is on Long Island, and is where the drink was invented.

Long Beach Iced Tea
20 ml gin
20 ml tequila
20 ml vodka
20 ml light rum
20 ml Cointreau
20 ml fresh lemon juice
50 ml cranberry juice
Shake all ingredients except juice, strain in ice-filled collins glass (400 ml) and fill with cranberry juice. Garnish with lemon slice.
Admirable!
Adios Motherfucker: Also known as a “Code Blue” or “Blue Fucker” due to its azure hue, this concoction is topped with Sprite (or another lemon-lime soda) instead of Coca-Cola and use blue curacao liqueur instead of triple sec (Cointreau).

Adios Motherfucker
20 ml gin
20 ml tequila
20 ml vodka
20 ml light rum
20 ml blue curacao
20 ml fresh lemon juice
50 ml sprite
Shake all ingredients except sprite, strain in ice-filled collins glass (400 ml) and fill with sprite. Garnish with lemon slice.
Another great “refreshers” ;) Has nuclear color, taste and kick!
Tokyo Tea: This libation uses the same liquors as the original Long Island, but is crowned with one-half to one full ounce of Midori instead of Coca-Cola. Also referred to as a “Three Mile Island.”

Tokyo Tea
20 ml gin
20 ml tequila
20 ml vodka
20 ml light rum
20 ml Cointreau
20 ml fresh lemon juice
30 ml Midori
splash of club soda
Shake all ingredients except soda, strain in ice-filled collins glass (400 ml) and add of club soda. Garnish with lemon slice.
I feel myself like real japanese after with very “refreshing” drink ;)
Unfortunately, I don`t have health for continuing of investigation and next variations of LIIT I want to try in future after few visit to my hepatologist :)
California Iced Tea: Calls for Amaretto in place of tequila and triple sec and topped with equal parts cranberry and pineapple juices.
Hawaiian Iced Tea: Shuns tequila and triple sec in favor of a full ounce of Chambord, and is topped with Sprite instead of Coca-Cola.
Miami Iced Tea: Reflecting the tropical setting of its name, this fruitier tea shuns triple sec and tequila in favor of Midori and peach schnapps, and is topped with orange juice instead of Coca-Cola.
Caribbean Iced Tea: This recipe utilizes a full ounce of dark jamaican rum, usually Myer’s, in place of tequila and vodka. Like the Long Island, it is topped with Coca-Cola.
Super Special LIT: Apart from the usual Gin, Vodka, Rum, Tequila, triple sec etc, it also includes a shot of Whiskey. The triple sec can also be substituted with peach schnapps.
Georgia Iced Tea: This drink calls for some sweet tea in place of Coke, which is ironic since Coca Cola is headquartered in Atlanta.
